Sheridan Waterproof Pillow Technical Specification

Flame Retardancy

The outer cover and filling are inherently flame retardant and tested and certified to Crib 5, BS7175.

Comfort

Unique "negative pressure" internal air pockets (patent pending) for extra comfort. The sealed pillow has internal pockets designed to take in displaced air during use. After filling the pillow a measured amount of air is withdrawn and the pockets remain closed under a balanced air pressure.

Pressure of the head displaces air into the pockets and allows for maximum support without causing pressure spots. The pillow reflates when pressure is released, keeping the pillow soft and comfortable at all times.

Tough Outer Cover

The material used for our pillows is polyether urethane which is manufactured under strict quality control by Bayer or Atochem to a thickness of 75 microns, resulting in a tough, durable and waterproof cover.

Welded Outer Cover

The seams of the cover are welded together. There are no stitches or stitch holes to trap bacteria, so the pillow is easily and thoroughly cleaned and disinfected.

Inner Filling

This lightweight material is manufactured by British Vita and is a one piece hollow fibre polyester mat with a foam centre core - giving very good insulation properties. The filling does not move inside the pillow, but maintains its original shape and position.

Waterproof - Vapour Permeable Cover

Impervious to liquids and hydrolysis. Vapour permeable so will not cause perspiration problems.

Impervious to Bacteria

The cover has been proven to be totally impervious to the following micro organisms: Pseudomonas aeruginosa; Proteus mirabilis; Escherichia coli; Staphylococcus aureus. This is why so many Nursing Homes are using the pillow to help prevent cross-infection of MRSA. WARNING: Although the waterproof cover is very strong, it can be damaged by equipment and sharp edges. If this occurs, the pillow should be replaced.

Non Allergenic

One hundred people were tested with patches of membrane attached to their skin for 24 hours. No irritation or hypersensitivity was detected.

Cleaning - Do Not Launder

If lightly soiled, merely wipe with hot water and detergent.

If heavily soiled, clean with water and neutral detergent (eg. 1% Hospec) and after cleaning, disinfect with an approved NHS formulation (eg. Clearsol1%/Stericol 2%/Hypochlorite, etc).
