Supertough Duvet and Pillows Technical Specification
Flame Retardancy
The outer cover and filling are inherently flame retardant and tested and certified to Crib 7, BS7175.
Tough Outer Cover
The material used for our duvets is polyether urethane which is manufactured under strict quality control by Bayer or Atochem, resulting in a tough, durable and waterproof cover.
Welded Outer Cover
The seams of the cover are welded together. There are no stitches or stitch holes to trap bacteria, so the duvet is easily and thoroughly cleaned and disinfected.
Inner Filling
This lightweight material is manufactured by British Vita and is a one piece hollow fibre polyester layer with excellent insulation properties. The duvet is lightweight but keeps the body really warm, without causing perspiration problems. The filling does not move inside the duvet, but maintains its original shape and position.
Waterproof - Vapour Permeable Cover
Impervious to liquids and hydrolysis. 300g/mē. Vapour permeable so will not cause perspiration problems.
Impervious to Bacteria
The cover has been proven to be totally impervious to the following micro organisms: Pseudomonas aeruginosa; Proteus mirabilis; Escherichia coli; Staphylococcus aureus. This is why so many Nursing Homes are using the duvet to help prevent cross-infection of MRSA. WARNING: Although the waterproof cover is very strong, it can be damaged by equipment and sharp edges. If this occurs, the duvet should be replaced.
Non Allergenic
One hundred people were tested with patches of membrane attached to their skin for 24 hours. No irritation or hypersensitivity was detected.
Cleaning - Do Not Launder
If lightly soiled, simply wipe with hot water and detergent.
If heavily soiled, clean with water and neutral detergent (eg. 1% Hospec) and after cleaning, disinfect with an approved NHS formulation : Clear Soluble Phenolic (eg. Clearsol1%/Stericol 2% etc). or
A Chlorine releasing agent (eg sodium hypochlorite / NaDCC 1000-10000 ppm available chlorine)
Further advice on disinfectants is available in Chemical Disinfection in Hospitals (Aycliffe,Coates & Hoffman 1984)
Cleaning Instructions

Clean half of the mattress cover and the upper surface of the duvet, wiping both surfaces dry. Turn the duvet over, placing cleaned surfaces together, then clean and dry exposed surfaces. Unfold the duvet, exposing the remaining uncleaned surface, clean and wipe dry.
